I’ve coached junior golfers for years now, and one question comes up more than almost any other: “How does the HJGT schedule actually work?<\/strong><\/em>“<\/p>

It makes sense. Between regional stops, national events, registration windows, and ranking points, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour<\/strong> can feel like a lot to untangle, especially if you’re new to competitive junior golf. So I put together this guide to walk you through it the way I’d walk a parent through it in person: what HJGT is, how the schedule is structured, how to register, and how to actually plan a season that helps your player improve instead of wearing them out.<\/p>

What Is the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour?<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

According to the HJGT Official website<\/strong><\/a>, it’s the largest multi-day junior golf tour in the nation, open to boys and girls ages 8 to 18. Since it launched in 2007, it’s grown into a nationwide tour, and now an international one, hosting hundreds of tournaments a year across a few different formats:<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\u2022 Open-registration tournaments:<\/strong> available to any eligible member, and the most common entry point.
\u2022 Invite-only events:<\/strong> reserved for players who qualify through ranking or performance.
\u2022 Major championships, annual cups, and a national championship:<\/strong> the highest level on the tour.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

What I like about HJGT is the range it offers. A player entering their first tournament can find a beginner-friendly local event to get comfortable. A player chasing a college scholarship can compete in high-ranking events that get real attention from college coaches. Most tournaments run two days, which gives players an honest look at tournament pace, course management, and mental stamina, the kind of skills that don’t show up on a scorecard but decide how a round actually goes.<\/p>

It’s also where players start building relationships that matter. I’ve watched juniors meet coaches, connect with players from other academies, and start to get a real sense of what competitive golf looks like beyond their home course.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

The HJGT schedule runs the full calendar year. New season details are usually announced in the fall, ahead of the following year, so I always tell parents to check early if they want first pick of registration at the popular venues.<\/p>

Within that calendar, you’ll generally see three tiers of events:<\/strong><\/p>
