So what is a knock down shot in golf, exactly? Strip away the fancy name and it’s simple: a knockdown shot is a lower, more piercing version of your normal shot, hit on purpose<\/strong>. Instead of the ball climbing high into the sky the way it does on a standard swing, it stays low to the ground, cuts through the wind instead of getting pushed around by it, and lands with more roll than a high, soft shot would.<\/p>

Here’s the part I see players get wrong constantly. They think hitting it low means swinging easier or babying the shot. It’s actually the opposite<\/strong>, and it’s the first thing I correct when I’m teaching this shot. A good knockdown still has speed and commitment behind it. I like to explain it to my players this way. Your regular swing is built to launch the ball high and let it stop softly. A knockdown takes that same athletic motion I already know you have and redirects it, so instead of height, you’re getting control. Before we even talk about the swing, let’s talk about the setup, because honestly, this is where most of the shot gets built. If you nail the setup, the swing basically takes care of itself. This is the same order I teach it in every time I’m on the range with a player, whether they’re at our Hilton Head Island academy<\/strong><\/a> or joining us down in Orlando<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>
